In a scene more reminiscent of a fairy tale than a typical Tuesday morning, a fox and an otter were captured on council CCTV cameras engaging in a playful frolic through the empty streets of Lincoln.
A Disney Moment in the Heart of Lincoln
The charming encounter was filmed at around 4am on Tuesday along the city’s Brayford river front. Camera operators monitoring the feeds were reportedly stunned to witness the two animals seemingly "dancing" and chasing one another. The footage, which has since attracted thousands of views online, shows the pair sniffing and playing tag in a display of unexpected camaraderie.
Staff from the City of Lincoln Council shared the video on their Facebook page, marvelling at the sight. They described it as catching a moment where an "unlikely friendship blossomed", quipping that while it wasn't the new John Lewis Christmas advert, it was a short film worth sharing of the animals' "little tour of Lincoln together."
Social Media Delight and a Pint-Worthy Name
After several minutes of chasing each other through the deserted urban landscape, the footage concludes with the otter leaping into the river, leaving the fox to sit and watch patiently from the riverbank.
The heart-warming scenes quickly captured the imagination of social media users. One observer noted, "Not many city centres would have this level of wildlife living within its environs. It’s an amazing sighting." Another compared the event to "Real-life Disney comes to Lincoln," while a third humorously suggested that "The Fox and Otter sounds like a great place to have a pint!"
The council also used the opportunity to highlight the round-the-clock work of their CCTV staff, who work 24/7, 365 days a year to keep the city and its inhabitants, both human and animal, safe.
