Dolphin calves have been photographed playfully leaping from the water off the Sunderland coast. Photographer Anthony Skordis captured the youngsters and adults breaching from the sea at Roker on Monday.
Rare November Sighting
Anthony, who lives locally, said: "I heard some dolphins had been at Roker in the morning, so thought I would chance a walk up the pier late morning and I was lucky that a group of about eight dolphins were still there."
The group included a couple of the calves from recently and they were in a really playful mood. It was a bonus to see them in November as there are normally fewer sightings at this time of year.
Dolphins Head North as Wind Picks Up
The dolphins then headed off north just as the wind picked up so much that waves were coming over the pier and it ended up getting closed for the rest of the day. It was a lovely bonus and nicely timed sighting for November. It was also lovely to see the calves back at Roker enjoying themselves.
