A dog named Panda, described as 'part panda' due to her black-and-white coat, is searching for a new home in the UK after being abandoned by her family. The Griffon mix, around a year old, was found living in a yard with a family who no longer wanted her, leaving her facing the prospect of being put back onto the streets.
Rescuers stepped in to help, and Panda is now being given the chance to find a new family. Her scruffy coat, marked with patches of black and white, earned her the name Panda. At around 14-15kg, she is described as a medium-sized dog.
Rescuers describe her as a 'blank canvas'
Panda is described as sweet, gentle, and affectionate, but because she spent much of her young life confined to a yard, she hasn't had the opportunity to experience everything that comes with being a family pet. Rescuers describe her as a "blank canvas" who will need someone willing to give her time to settle, learn, and build her confidence.
In return, they believe Panda has all the ingredients to become a wonderful companion. She is looking for someone who can show her that she is no longer unwanted.
Public reaction to Panda's story
Commenting on her rehoming post, one user said: "What an adorable girl." Another added: "Gorgeous." A third user commented: "Panda is gorgeous. A really lovely girl, cuddle, sweet, opened, and calm. If you adopt her, you will be very lucky."
Greek Stray ResQ's mission
Panda is being cared for by Greek Stray ResQ, which looks after abandoned dogs from around Greece. A statement on its website says: "Greece faces an urgent crisis with over three million stray animals roaming its streets. These innocent souls desperately need our help. By adopting a Greek stray, you become part of the solution."
The statement adds: "Only a handful of shelters exist in Greece, and they are struggling to cope. Space is at a premium, leaving stray animals with nowhere to turn."
It continues: "Strays outside the shelter walls are vulnerable. They lack protection and face unimaginable dangers. Locals may see them as vermin, subjecting them to beatings, poisonings, and abuse."
"We witness countless cases of resilience. Strays hit by vehicles or beaten, yet somehow surviving. Some are blind, others bear open wounds. Their will to survive is awe-inspiring."
"Summers can scorch at over 40 degrees — imagine their paws on blistering streets. Winters in northern Greece can plunge to minus 10 degrees — a harsh reality for those without shelter." To rehome Panda, or any other dogs currently in the care of Greek Dog ResQ, visit greekstrayrescue.com.
