Clive Owen has spoken candidly about growing older and handing over the reins to the next generation in a touching repeat episode of Our Farm Next Door.
The Yorkshire farmer reflected on the shifting dynamic at his farm as his son Miles took on a bigger role.
Son takes on grass-cutting
His admission comes after Clive's son, Miles, opened up about his dad "slowing down" at Ravenseat Farm.
Clive Owen told the camera, "The kids grow up and become men. I am getting older, and I am not as strong as I used to be, so yeah, it is good that these young guys take over."
The repeat episode, airing on Sunday, saw Miles take charge of the grass-cutting for the very first time, a task that Clive admitted was no easy undertaking.
Challenging conditions
"It is quite complicated, especially on these awkward fields," he explained, while also noting the challenging conditions they had been facing.
"We are cutting grass today. Now is our time, but the weather has been very unsettled. It is saying we might have three fine days, so we are having a go."
Despite keeping a watchful eye on his son and offering the odd word of caution - "Turn across; just be careful here. Down, down, watch what you're doing." - Clive was clearly proud to be stepping back from the role.
Proud father
"It is something I have always done, and it's lovely that I am not doing it. So, I am just telling him off, and he is fed up of me already," he laughed.
Clive went on to reflect warmly on seeing his children grow into capable young men.
"They're grown-up these lads, and it's good for them to take over these jobs. Miles is a young man now so, the mowing is for him," he said.
With a characteristic mix of humour and sincerity, Clive summed up his new role on the farm: "It's time to pass on the baton and let them do more and more and that is how it is. I am here to watch over them and annoy them, and we will get there in the end."
