Disturbing footage has emerged showing a group of children chasing sheep towards the edge of a cliff in Cornwall, sparking widespread outrage and a police investigation.
The shocking incident, captured on video, depicts the youngsters laughing as they pursue the terrified animals dangerously close to a steep drop. The sheep can be seen frantically running in panic before one appears to fall over the edge.
Outrage Over Animal Cruelty
Local residents and animal welfare organisations have expressed fury at the children's actions, condemning it as "senseless cruelty". The RSPCA has been alerted to the incident, which occurred near Newquay.
"This is absolutely appalling behaviour," said a spokesperson for Cornwall Wildlife Trust. "Not only is it incredibly dangerous for the sheep, but it's also extremely hazardous for the children involved."
Police Launch Investigation
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed they are investigating the incident after the video circulated on social media. Officers are working to identify the children involved.
"We take all reports of animal cruelty seriously," a police statement read. "This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and we're appealing for anyone with information to come forward."
Dangers of Cliff Edges
The incident has also raised concerns about safety near cliff edges, particularly during school holidays when more children are outdoors. Local authorities have reminded parents about the importance of supervising youngsters in coastal areas.
"Cornwall's cliffs are beautiful but deadly," warned a coastguard spokesperson. "We urge everyone to keep a safe distance from edges and to respect wildlife."
