New ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging bays have been officially opened at the Bellfield Interchange. The charging hub, operated by the Motor Fuel Group (MFG), will operate 24 hours a day at the Riccarton Road site in Kilmarnock.
Part of £400 million investment
The new hub forms part of a £400 million investment from MFG into its EV charging network, with the firm installing 1,000 bays in 2025 and around 3,000 deployed by 2030.
Martin Symes, EV Director at MFG, said: “Our Kilmarnock site demonstrates MFG’s commitment to delivering reliable, convenient ultra-rapid EV charging facilities to communities nationwide.”
He added: “As part of our national EV rollout, this new hub will provide vital infrastructure to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles and the UK’s shift to cleaner transport. We have a clear strategy in Scotland to deliver best in class public charging for customers across the Central Belt as part of our UK-wide investment plans.”
Over 2,000 bays already deployed
Across its network of 1,300 sites, MFG has already deployed over 2,000 charging bays, representing more than 10% of the UK’s rapid and ultra-rapid EV infrastructure.
The hub was officially opened by Kilmarnock and Loudoun MP Lillian Jones, who said: “It was great to visit MFG's charging hub here on Riccarton Road and see the investment being made in Kilmarnock's EV infrastructure first-hand.”
She added: “Reliable, fast charging close to home makes the switch to electric easier for local drivers, and sites like this one help make sure our area isn't left behind as the country moves towards cleaner transport. I'll continue to back the investment our constituency needs to make greener travel a practical choice for everyone.”
