The Environment Agency has launched an investigation after Salford residents complained of a persistent 'bad smell' in Little Hulton. The agency says it is looking into reports of the 'odour' in the area.
Jordan Newman, who has lived in the area for 15 years, told the Manchester Evening News that the stench, which smells like 'rotten eggs', has been prevalent in the town for years.
Resident describes years of frustration
"This bad smell in Little Hulton isn't something new," he said. "It's been going on for years. It comes and goes depending on which way the wind is blowing, and when it hits, it's really strong and unpleasant right across the area."
"Lots of us have reported it to the Environment Agency time and time again. Every time we do, we get the same reply; that the site responsible will be moving soon. But nothing changes."
"The smell keeps coming back, and we keep getting told the same thing, over and over. It's really frustrating for everyone living here. We're told it will be sorted, it'll be moved, but it just carries on."
Impact on daily life
"It affects our daily lives, you can't sit outside, and you never know when it's going to drift over next. People are fed up because there's no real change, just the same promise that it'll be fixed 'soon.' We'd just like to see it actually resolved properly."
On Saturday (October 3), the Environment Agency announced that it is 'monitoring levels' in Little Hulton following reports of the smell.
