Firefighters are battling a large blaze at a recycling centre in West Lothian, with locals urged to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed.
Emergency services were called to Brookfield metal recycling centre at Avontoun Works on the A706 near Linlithgow shortly after 9.30am this morning (October 4).
Heavy smoke reported
Edinburgh Live reports that Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed the blaze involves a large quantity of scrap metal. Those living nearby have been asked to avoid the area and keep their windows and doors closed.
Some locals have reported seeing “heavy smoke” over Linlithgow Bridge.
Fire service response
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 9.35am to reports of a fire involving a large quantity of scrap metal.
“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the incident.
“Crews remain in attendance extinguishing the fire and local residents are urged to keep their doors and windows closed in the meantime.”
The cause of the fire is not currently known.
