Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned Egypt that Russian strikes in the Black Sea threaten global food supplies. In a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Zelenskyy stressed the need for international action to protect grain exports.
Threat to Global Food Security
Zelenskyy said that Russian attacks on port infrastructure and grain vessels endanger shipments to countries in Africa and the Middle East. He called for a coordinated response to ensure safe passage for commercial shipping.
The warning comes as Ukraine continues to export grain under a UN-brokered deal. Egypt is a major importer of Ukrainian wheat, and any disruption could worsen food insecurity in the region.
International Appeal
Zelenskyy urged Egypt to support efforts to pressure Russia to halt attacks on civilian shipping. He also discussed the potential for joint initiatives to stabilize global food markets.
Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication on the issue, according to a readout of the call.
