Tory Conference Day 2: Housing Plan and Key Speeches

Day two of the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham is set to be dominated by the party's ambitious plan to bring down house prices by up to £50,000. The proposal, billed as "Our Plan for a Stronger Economy", is also pitched as a way to unleash enterprise and boost growth.

Coast and Country Day

A raft of events linked to rural Britain will also take place, with shadow DEFRA secretary Victoria Atkins telling the Express last night that it was also their "coast and country day". The programme sets the scene for Shadow Chancellor Andrew Griffith, who delivers his keynote speech on Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday's agenda, the party's top team takes to the stage, with energy, transport, health, work and the countryside all featuring.

Morning Sessions

Shadow Secretary of State for Energy Security Andrew Bowie kicks off at 9.45am with "Cheap, clean, abundant energy", promising a plan to bring "common sense back to energy policy". At 10.30am, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport Richard Holden presents "Getting Britain Moving Again", the party's plan for drivers, jobs and growth.

Also at 10.30am, the Countryside Alliance hosts a panel on whether the Conservatives can win rural Britain. It features Shadow Housing Secretary Katie Lam, Shadow Environment Secretary Victoria Atkins and the Daily Express's political correspondent Aaron Newbury.

Health, Work and Rural Vision

At 11.15am, Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Damian Hinds tackles AI and the future of British healthcare, asking how UK innovation can transform care and put patients first. At 12.15pm, Mr Griffith is joined by Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Helen Whately and Shadow Education Secretary Laura Trott for a session titled "A future worth working for", billed as a drive to move people from the sidelines into the workforce.

Also at 12.15pm, Ms Atkins sets out the Conservative rural vision in the Fanzone, billed as a common-sense plan for the countryside and the rural economy.

Stronger Economy Session

From 2pm to 4pm, the economic team takes centre stage at Symphony Hall. The session is billed as a comprehensive plan to get Britain's economy growing again.
