Emergency works are being carried out on a property in Anfield after Liverpool City Council's building control team identified a safety issue. A temporary road and footpath closure has been in place from approximately 3pm on September 3, with Merseyside Police also seen in attendance to assist.
The safety issue relates to a house on Walton Breck Road, which currently has its ground floor windows boarded up. Council officials have approved works using legislation that allows immediate action where a building "poses a danger to the public."
Building previously found structurally unsound
The Liverpool ECHO understands it is the same building reported on in August 2025, which was found to be structurally unsound at the time, with a crack measuring approximately five metres and the windows and bay sagging as a result.
Officials initiated emergency works earlier today after a safety concern was raised.
Council statement on road closure
A Liverpool City Council spokesperson said: "We are carrying out emergency works at a property on Walton Breck Road after a safety issue was identified by our Building Control team.
"As a result, a temporary road and footpath closure has been in place from approximately 3pm on Thursday 3 September.
"The works are being undertaken under Section 78 of the Building Act 1984, which allows local authorities to take immediate action where a building poses a danger to the public.
"The closure is at Walton Breck Road and Oakfield Road. At this stage, the Council expects the restrictions to remain in place while the necessary safety works are carried out and it is possible they could continue into the weekend.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are working to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops."
