DWP: Two groups must claim Winter Fuel Payment for 2026-27

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed two groups who need to claim their Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2026-2027. Claims are now open, with postal applications accepted from 21 September 2026 and phone applications from 19 October 2026. The deadline for claims is 31 March 2027.

Who must claim and how

According to the DWP, you need to claim if you have never received the Winter Fuel Payment before, or if you have deferred your State Pension since your last payment. To apply, fill in a Winter Fuel Payment claim form and send it to: DWP Winter Fuel Payment Centre, Mail Handling Site A, Wolverhampton, WV98 1LR.

Most eligible people receive the £200 or £300 payment automatically. However, those with an annual income over £35,000 must repay the money unless they opt out before receiving it.

Payment amounts and eligibility

The payments are worth £200 for those under 80, but those born before 1946 could receive £300 from the DWP and Labour government.
