The Met Office has forecast rain for 22 counties across northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Friday, as temperatures are expected to cool following earlier heatwave conditions.
Afternoon temperatures are predicted to reach 25C in and around London, 23C in the Midlands, 22C in eastern areas and Wales, 19C in Northern Ireland, and 16C in central Scotland.
While conditions will be fine and dry for most of England and Wales, rain is expected to sweep across northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Met Office meteorologist comments
Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said: "It will be quite a cool start to Friday, by and large a fine day - certainly across the south with plenty of sunshine. It might start a bit grey across the far south-east."
He added: "There will be some showers drifting through again for north-west England, showers certainly coming and going throughout the day in western Scotland, and for Northern Ireland."
"The showers will fade over north-west England, with much of England and Wales just dry and fine, with plenty of sunny spells and light winds."

The Met Office forecast maps show rain in 22 counties: in England – Cumberland, Westmorland, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Northumberland; in Northern Ireland – Londonderry, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Antrim, Down, Armagh; in Scotland – Ross-shire and Cromartyshire, Inverness-shire, Argyllshire, Perthshire, Buteshire, Stirlingshire, Dunbarton, Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Angus.

BBC Weather’s forecast suggests some showers could turn "heavy" in northern areas on Friday. It states: "Tomorrow will be cloudy in the north with scattered showers, these falling locally heavy. Southern areas will be dry with variable cloud and sunny spells. Warm in the south-east."
"Sunny spells for most on Saturday, though Scotland may see isolated showers, mainly across the far north. Sunday will be mostly dry and sunny to start but cloud will build into western areas in the afternoon. A few spots of light rain in western areas later in the day."
"Cloudy and wet in the north on Monday with heavy rain. Sunny spells and a risk of heavy showers in the south."
