Matt Baker Left 'Worried' as Cave Door Slams Shut on Countryfile

Countryfile presenter Matt Baker found himself feeling 'worried' during a visit to an ancient cave featured on the BBC One programme on Sunday evening (December 7).

Matt was joined by fellow presenter Sammi Kinghorn as they explored Bannau Brycheiniog National Park in Wales. The segment focused on how water flows through valleys, sculpting the landscape both above and below ground.

Accompanied by husband-and-wife duo Andy and Antonia Freem of the South Wales Caving Club, along with caving instructor Gary Evans, Matt ventured into Britain's deepest cave system, OFG1 (Ogof Ffynnon Ddu 1). The cave stretches approximately 6,000 metres and serves as a restricted-access entry point.

Before descending, Matt explained: 'Along the way, I will be discovering the magical world created underground by the power of water.' As the team climbed down a ladder, Andy secured the floor hatch behind him, causing the door to slam shut with a thud.

Matt, visibly anxious, questioned: 'What are you locking us in?' Cave explorer Andrea quickly reassured him: 'It's alright, you can get out again.' Still uncertain, Matt chuckled: 'That was a good slam, yeah, just double check.' The group leader added: 'It is a very prison-like noise.'

Despite the initial shock, Matt continued his adventure, exploring the captivating subterranean waterway.
