Three-legged dog Laika rejected by thousands despite 22,000 views
Three-legged dog rejected by thousands despite 22,000 views

A three-legged dog named Laika has been seen by more than 22,000 potential adopters, but despite the interest, no one has completed the adoption process. The two-year-old crossbreed, who was saved from the streets after suffering a serious leg injury that required amputation, is still waiting for a forever home in Essex.

Adapted remarkably well

Laika has adapted remarkably well to her disability and can run, jump and play like any other dog. She enjoys moderate walks and enrichment activities, and is described by her rescue as a "superstar" who is "totally fearless."

She adores people and is happiest when getting attention, making her dream to find a family she can call her own. Laika is said to be brilliant with men, women and children, and doesn't hesitate to greet strangers in her garden. She also loves cuddles and is accustomed to lead walking, can be trusted off lead, and responds reliably when called.

'Nobody willing to go the distance'

Despite her affectionate nature, Laika has struggled to find someone prepared to offer her a permanent home. The rescue reports that over 22,000 individuals viewed her earlier adoption appeal, generating substantial interest, yet no one progressed to submitting an application, undergoing a home assessment, or attending an adoption meeting.

Laika has also experienced the devastation of being returned after an adoption. She was brought back after just three weeks due to veterinary costs associated with what the rescue described as a "tiny insignificant paw abrasion." The rescue added: "Sometimes we are in disbelief. Can you make it right for Laika and be her forever home?"

'She has lived with dogs, cats and a tortoise'

Laika's past experiences suggest she could be a versatile companion for the right household. She has lived with dogs, cats, and even a tortoise, and is described as "brilliant" with them. She can be left unattended for several hours and is reportedly excellent with other dogs.

The rescue is seeking a devoted home that will embrace an energetic young dog with three legs. A brief foster-to-adopt arrangement might also be considered for someone wanting to ensure Laika suits their household. She is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated, and weighs approximately 15kg.

For now, Laika remains in Essex, waiting for the right person to look past her three legs and discover the loving, lively, and resilient dog she is. Those interested in giving her a forever home can contact Miracle's Mission through their website at miraclesmission.org.
