Simon Batchelor and Lisa Fryett, a British couple from Essex, are fighting for their lives in a Spanish hospital after being rescued from a deadly wildfire near Bédar and Los Gallardos in southern Spain. The couple sustained horrific injuries and were airlifted from a mountainside the day after the blaze started, according to reports.
Children Rush to Spain
The couple's three children have scrambled to Spain to be at their parents' bedside. A fundraising appeal launched to support the family has raised more than £46,000 to cover emergency travel, accommodation, and other expenses.
Heartbreaking Plea for Rescue
According to the fundraiser, when rescuers found Simon and Lisa, they pleaded to be saved so they could see their children again. The fundraiser states: "Our family is asking for your help during the most heartbreaking time of our lives." It adds: "Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the emergency services, that wish has now become a reality, with all three of their children by their side in Spain. Lisa's twin sister has also remained by her side."
Fundraiser to Ease Financial Burden
The appeal notes that as the couple continues to receive lifesaving treatment, costs for emergency travel, accommodation, food, and transport are mounting daily. It says: "Every donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with your family and friends."
Gratitude to Emergency Services
The family also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Spain, the local community, and emergency services, especially the Guardia Civil officers, for their courage and determination in rescuing the couple.
