Wigan Road Closed After Severe Flooding

Tanners Lane in Wigan has been closed following a major flood, with council and United Utilities staff working at the scene after the road was submerged in water on Thursday morning (August 20).

Vehicle Abandoned Under Bridge

Photos taken by the M.E.N show a vehicle that appears to have been abandoned underneath the bridge where the flooding occurred. Most of the water has subsided, but signs remain in place for the time being.

Thunderstorm Warning Issued

The flooding comes after a thunderstorm warning was issued for Greater Manchester. The Met Office placed a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms that lasted until 1pm. The forecaster warned that heavy showers and storms are likely to 'lead to some travel disruption and flash flooding'.
