Warning Issued to Visitors of Eryri Lake After Algae Found

Natural Resources Wales has issued an urgent warning to visitors at Gwynedd's Llyn Celyn reservoir following the discovery of a potentially harmful algae. Officers identified a blue-green algal bloom after investigations and water sampling.

Precautionary Measures Advised

An alert has now been issued to those visiting the Gwynedd reservoir as the algae can be harmful to people and animals. A spokesperson stated: "As a precaution, please avoid contact with the water where algae or scums are visible and keep dogs out of the water."

Warning Signs Installed

Warning signs have been installed around the lake to advise visitors. The spokesperson added: "While not all blooms are toxic, some can be harmful to people and animals."

Reporting Suspected Blooms

If you spot a suspected blue-green algal bloom elsewhere, the public is encouraged to report it using Natural Resources Wales' online form or call their incident hotline on 03000 65 3000.
