UK weather maps show 30C heat surge next week across 28 counties

Parts of the UK are likely to experience a surge in temperatures in the coming days, with the latest weather maps showing mercury levels soaring to 30C next week. Weather maps generated by WXCharts have turned red for August 26, indicating the possibility of sweltering conditions.

The maps come just days after several parts of the country were drenched by heavy rain, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow thunderstorm warning. However, the wet weather is expected to be short-lived, with forecasts suggesting that nearly 28 counties across England could see temperatures exceed 25C next week.

Areas around London set to be hottest

Areas around London are likely to witness the hottest temperature with maps showing a possibility of 30C. The Met Office reported last week that temperatures reached 37.6C in Charlwood, Surrey, while Wisley recorded 37.2C. Kew Gardens in London saw temperatures climb to 38.1C, making it the highest temperature recorded anywhere in the UK so far this year.

And it seems the hot weather will soon make a return. The Met Office's long-range forecast between August 25 and September 3 suggests a possibility of “short-lived hot spells”.

Met Office forecast for late August

The forecast reads: “Becoming more unsettled and changeable from the south at the start of this period, as showers or longer spells of rain spread north across many parts of the UK. Some heavy bursts and thunderstorms are likely at times.

“Thereafter, it will likely remain changeable through the rest of August and into early September, with rainfall amounts probably above average for the time year. Some drier, more settled interludes could develop at times.

“Temperatures are likely to be near average, although some short-lived warm or hot spells are possible, especially in the south.”
