UK Weather Maps Show 34C Heat Surge in June - 14 Counties Above 30C
UK Weather Maps: 34C Heat Surge in June, 14 Counties Over 30C

New weather maps suggest that Britain may experience a scorching end to June, with temperatures potentially reaching 34C in some areas. According to the latest ECMWF HRES maximum temperature charts from WXCharts, which utilize MetDesk data, a plume of hot air is expected to sweep across southern and eastern England, bringing some of the hottest weather of the year.

Heat Surge Forecast

The most intense heat is predicted to hit eastern, central, and south-east England, where widespread temperatures of 30C to 34C are shown on the updated maps. The hottest conditions are centered over East Anglia and parts of the Home Counties, with isolated spots potentially reaching 34C. The peak of the heatwave is forecast around June 19 and June 22.

Separate long-range charts covering the period from June 13 to June 21 also point to a prolonged spell of above-average warmth, with hot air pushing northwards from continental Europe. These forecasts suggest that some areas could top 30C during the middle of the month before an even hotter plume potentially arrives later in June.

Counties Set to Sizzle

The 17 counties expected to see temperatures above 30C include Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Warwickshire, and Greater London. Neighbouring counties such as Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire, and parts of Yorkshire could also see temperatures in the high 20s.

Regional Variations

While southern and eastern England brace for intense heat, much of Wales, northern England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are expected to remain considerably cooler. Western parts of the UK are forecast to escape the worst of the heat, with much of Wales and south-west England experiencing temperatures in the low to mid-20s. Scotland and Northern Ireland are shown with temperatures largely in the mid to high teens, although eastern Scotland could climb into the low 20s.

Recent Heat Records

The latest forecasts come just weeks after the Met Office confirmed that the UK recorded its hottest May day on record, with temperatures reaching a sweltering 35C at Heathrow and Kew Gardens. If the current projections prove accurate, parts of England could once again face scorching conditions later this month.

The weather maps are based on one forecast model, meaning that exact temperatures and the areas most affected could still change over the coming days. However, if the current projections hold, parts of England could be in line for one of the hottest spells of the year so far, with temperatures soaring well above the June average.
