Manchester United are reportedly growing in confidence that they can sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba in the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old Cameroon international has been a long-term target for the club, with interest dating back before the 2025/26 season.
United are planning a significant overhaul of their midfield, with Baleba seen as a key addition. Brighton previously quoted a fee in excess of £100 million, with the £115 million received from Chelsea for Moises Caicedo setting the benchmark. Baleba's contract at the Amex Stadium runs until June 2028.
The Red Devils have been encouraged by a perceived decline in Baleba's performances for Fabian Hurzeler's side, which may soften Brighton's resolve. United are also monitoring Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Alex Scott as potential reinforcements in the middle of the park.
Midfield departures are expected at Old Trafford, with Casemiro set to leave when his contract expires in June. The futures of Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo are also uncertain, adding urgency to the club's recruitment plans.
Brighton, however, have insisted Baleba is not for sale. Deputy chairman Paul Barber said there had been no contact from United and no desire to sell, while chairman Tony Bloom confirmed interest last summer but stated the player was unavailable.
