UK Households With Artificial Grass Warned During Heatwave This Week
UK Artificial Grass Warning Issued During Heatwave This Week

UK households with artificial grass have been issued a warning as the country prepares for a heatwave this week. The Met Office predicts temperatures could reach 32C in some areas, prompting many to spend more time outdoors. However, experts caution that certain warm-weather activities can cause significant damage to synthetic lawns.

Paddling Pools and Barbecues Pose Risks

Colin Potts from Artificial Grass Direct highlights common mistakes during half term. 'Families set up paddling pools, leave bikes on the turf, and apply sunscreen without thinking about the impact,' he says. A paddling pool left in one spot can mat down fibres and create mould. He advises placing pools on patios or moving them daily.

Barbecues are another frequent cause of damage. 'Coals remain dangerously hot for hours, and an accidentally knocked barbecue can drop hot ash onto the turf,' Potts warns. Even a spark can cause scorching. He recommends positioning barbecues on patio slabs or concrete.

How to Protect Artificial Grass

Artificial Grass Direct recommends the following routine during busy periods:

  • Brush the lawn every two to three days with a stiff-bristled broom to keep fibres upright.
  • Rinse the surface with a garden hose every few days, especially after sunscreen or food use.
  • Reposition heavy garden furniture every few weeks to avoid permanent damage.
  • Remove leaves, food debris, and dropped items promptly to reduce staining.
  • Place bird feeders over paved areas to prevent seed residue and droppings accumulation.

With proper care, homeowners can enjoy their artificial grass without costly repairs.
