A cleaning expert has shared the natural, non-toxic product she uses to deep clean her kitchen sink and drains, describing it as "better" than vinegar and baking soda.
Courtney, who posts on Instagram as @courtney.onpurpose, recommends hypochlorous acid as the "most underrated non-toxic disinfectant". A 500ml bottle of Hypochlorous acid disinfectant is available for £5.99 from HOCL, according to the Express.
Why hypochlorous acid is recommended
In the caption to her video, Courtney explained: "The typical commercial cleaning products are full of harmful fumes and chemicals that you are inhaling. Honestly I used to use and have tried all of them until I learned a safer and just as effective (may I say better) better way."
She added: "It kills bacteria and viruses without any harsh chemicals, no fumes, and it is completely safe around your kids and pets."
Other uses and cleaning routine
The acid is not limited to the kitchen sink — it can be used to clean everything from worktops to cushions and scatter cushions. Some hypochlorous products can even be applied to the skin.
Courtney outlined her routine for cleaning a sink and drains: start by scrubbing with dish soap, sprinkle baking soda and scrub or wipe, then rinse. Pour half a cup of citric acid and half a cup of baking soda down the drain with hot water and let it fizz. Finally, spray hypochlorous acid, let it sit for two minutes, then wipe and dry completely.
