Spain's national weather agency has issued a fresh warning as a new heatwave intensifies fire risks across the country. The alert, posted on X on Wednesday, warns that the fire danger will be very high or extreme in most of Spain. “Take extreme precautions,” the message reads.
High Temperatures Forecast
Temperatures are expected to hit 41C in the central province of Toledo, where residents from nine of 11 evacuated towns were allowed to return home on Tuesday. Madrid is bracing for highs of 38C, while Zaragoza may see 40C. Seville, Malaga, and Palma are forecast to reach 37C, 33C, and 33C respectively, according to the Met Office.
Ongoing Wildfire Threat
Thousands had fled their homes earlier as wildfires tore through parts of the country, though many have since been permitted to return. Spain’s Interior Minister urged people on Tuesday: “Don’t let your guard down… a spark, a moment of carelessness, or an oversight can change anything.”
UK Government Advice
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has not issued blanket warnings but advises holidaymakers to remain alert. It urges Brits in wildfire-affected areas to follow instructions from local authorities and emergency services, check updates, and call 112 if they need emergency help. The FCDO also reminds travelers to extinguish cigarette ends properly, avoid lighting barbecues, and not leave empty bottles behind, as fines can be heavy for breaking rules against outdoor barbecues in forest areas.
