Remove Grease Stains with Chalk: Surprising Hack

Grease stains can appear hard to remove, but a simple natural method using chalk can effectively tackle them. Cleaning expert Georgia, known as Clean with Georgia on TikTok, reveals that instead of baking soda or vinegar, chalk works wonders on oil stains.

How to Remove Grease Stains with Chalk

After blotting excess liquid, rub chalk directly into the stain. The absorbent properties of chalk pull oil from fabric into the chalk itself. Leave the chalk on for several minutes to fully absorb the grease. If the chalk clumps, reapply until it no longer clumps, indicating all oil is absorbed.

Brush away remaining chalk and launder as usual. This method works especially well on smaller marks.

Why Chalk Works

Kathy Cohoon from Two Maids & a Mop explains: "The chemical makeup of chalk and its open-cell structure makes it incredibly absorbent. Chalk is able to zap up moisture and liquids easily." Jill Koch of Jill Comes Clean adds: "Chalk is typically made from calcium carbonate, which absorbs oil and holds onto it. Then you brush the chalk away and the oil along with it."
