Rain Arrives but Drought Persists as Reservoirs Remain Low

Rain is finally falling after a summer that saw England and Wales experience the driest July since records began. However, the drought is not over, as reservoirs remain at 'exceptionally low' levels.

How Much Rain Is Needed?

Dr Anna Murgatroyd, a lecturer in hydrology at Newcastle University, discussed how much rain is needed to replenish water stocks and see the region through next summer. She also highlighted the increased risk of floods now that the dry ground is less able to absorb water.

What Can Be Done?

Dr Murgatroyd also offered advice on what everyone can do to take better care of water supplies during this period of scarcity.
