A cleaning expert has shared a simple hack for removing mould and mildew from shower grout without any scrubbing, using toilet paper and a mould spray.
The TikTok user, known as @sisterpledgecleans, demonstrated the method in a video. She coats the grouting with Astonish's mould and mildew spray, then presses toilet paper onto the affected area. She advises: "Use this hack to remove mould and mildew from your grouting. Stick toilet roll to the grouting and saturate with product to make it stick. Leave it overnight then remove." After removing the paper, she reveals the same strip of silicone shows around 90% less mould and mildew growth than before.

Several users responded to the video with their own experiences. One said: "Love this, thank you." Another commented: "I used Domestos last night and left it with tissue all night, it worked. I would say 80% it works." A third added: "I used Domestos bleach and it worked," while another simply said: "Very good."
The technique has also been praised on Reddit, where a homeowner posted a photo of mould-ridden grout on the DIYUK forum, asking: "Why does this seem to happen at every flat we've lived in and how can we get rid of/prevent it permanently?" They noted they had tried mould remover, use a squeegee after showering, air out the bathroom, and run a dehumidifier regularly. They asked whether resealing was needed and how to prevent recurrence.
Reddit users back the bleach method
One Reddit user suggested: "The best solution I've found is to get some wet toilet paper, press it up to the affected area and soak it in bleach. Leave it for 24 hours and check it. Won't be perfect and may need a few rounds but it's either that or replace the silicone." Another replied: "This 100% Had great results in our bathroom."
A further user shared: "This might be worth a try before you replace it. I did this in my flat and it killed off all the mould and looked brand new. Just repeated the process about a year later when it started getting bad again. If you have more willpower than I, clean it with a bleach based product more often to prevent future issues."
