Nearly half of all Brits find it difficult to sleep during hot weather, leaving them drained of energy and feeling fatigued. As the nation endures yet another heatwave with temperatures expected to exceed 30 degrees, 45% report that the heat and discomfort prevents them from fully enjoying themselves.
Survey Reveals Summer Struggles
A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that despite 39% citing summer as their preferred season, almost a quarter struggle to concentrate when the mercury rises. This is compounded by the fact that 35% find it challenging to maintain a comfortable temperature in their homes.
Additional factors making the summer months harder to savour included sweaty commutes on public transport, being required to work on glorious sunny days, and even feeling under pressure to capitalise on the fine weather.
Top Ten Summer Enjoyment Blockers
The survey also identified the top ten things that get in the way of enjoying summer: difficulty sleeping in the heat, feeling hot or uncomfortable, trouble keeping the house cool, sunburn or hay fever, feeling low on energy in hot weather, unpredictable weather, increased road traffic, crowded beaches, difficulty concentrating in hot weather, and sweaty public transport journeys.
Cooling Initiative Offers Relief
In a bid to help people cope with the heat, a unique summer pit stop was established over the weekend, providing a much-needed respite from soaring temperatures during one of the year's hottest weekends. The giffgaff Keep Your Cool Zone transformed a milk float into the ultimate relaxation space and heat-relief hub, complete with cooling mists and shaded seating.
Situated at Boxpark Shoreditch, the cooling station also offered a refreshing pre-match retreat for football supporters as England faced Norway in the football World Cup quarter-final. The facility enabled supporters watching the match in the sweltering conditions to cool down.
The cooling station was established as part of giffgaff's Fair Play Summer Fund, an initiative designed to assist individuals and communities in addressing those frustrating circumstances that can diminish summer enjoyment.
CEO Comments on Initiative
Kate Dohaney, CEO for the mobile and broadband provider, said: "Summer should be about making the most of the longer days and spending time with friends and family, but for many people, the heat can quickly become uncomfortable and take the shine off the season." She added: "We've already helped people with some of this summer's connectivity stings, by providing unlimited data and broadband for less, so we wanted to take things a step further and help England fans keep their cool ahead of the game."
