A certified fitness trainer and mum has shared a simple five-minute workout that beginners can do at home with no equipment. Lindsey Bomgren, who runs the blog Nourish Move Love, designed the routine to help burn fat and improve cardiovascular health.
Quick and effective for busy schedules
Bomgren explained that the workout is for those with limited time, saying: "As a busy mom, business-owner and fitness coach, I live by the saying '10 minutes is better than zero minutes,' and I’ll be totally honest – some days, I don’t even have 10 minutes. That’s where this quick five-minute workout comes in."
She described these sessions as "micro workouts" or "exercise snacks," combining five heart-pumping exercises in a no-repeat format. Beginners and advanced athletes can modify the routine to suit their fitness levels.
Recommended frequency and benefits
Bomgren recommended adding the workout to a routine one to two times a week to "burn calories, burn fat and improve cardiovascular health." Alternatively, it can be used daily as a quick movement break between meetings or nap time to boost mood.
The five exercises
The workout includes squats, push-ups, reverse lunges, standing punches, and lateral lunges, all requiring no equipment. Each exercise is described with proper form, such as keeping the core tight and body in a straight line during push-ups.
Bomgren noted: "These workouts are efficient and accessible – the best benefit is that you’re able to fit some movement into your day, even if you work a job that requires you to sit at a desk all day."
