MOMA Foods has issued a major product recall following possible mouse contamination at its manufacturing site. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned customers not to consume a wide range of MOMA porridge pots, sachets, cereals, and overnight oats, and to return them for a full refund. The recall covers all MOMA porridge and cereal products with best-before dates between April 24, 2026 and March 12, 2027.
Products Affected and Refund Process
The affected items include: Almond Butter & Salted Caramel Porridge Pots (55g, various packs), Apple, Cinnamon & Brown Sugar Porridge Pots and Sachets, Banana & Peanut Butter Protein Porridge Pots, Blueberry & Vanilla Porridge Pots and Sachets, Cranberry & Raisin Porridge Pots and Sachets, Golden Syrup Porridge Pots, Plain No-Added Sugar Porridge Pots and Sachets, Jumbo Oats, and Raspberry & Apple Overnight Oats.
MOMA stated it is taking the precautionary step even though the chance of any individual product being affected is low. A company spokesman said: “Any consumers who have purchased affected MOMA porridge products are asked not to consume them. Instead, they should return the products to the store where they were purchased and a full refund will be issued.” Point-of-sale notices are appearing in stores and on retailer websites. Customers who bought the products online can contact MOMA directly via its website.
Background and Safety Concerns
The contamination incident is understood to have occurred last autumn at the production facility. MOMA, founded in a Deptford railway arch in 2006 and now part-owned by AG Barr, markets its products as convenient premium breakfast options. No linked illnesses have been reported, but the recall underscores risks in dry food manufacturing where rodents can introduce bacteria such as salmonella. The FSA continues to monitor the situation.
The FSA stated: “MOMA Foods is recalling various porridge pots and sachet products because of possible mouse contamination at the manufacturing site. These products may contain mouse contamination making them unsafe to eat.” This action affects significant volumes given the broad best-before window stretching into 2027. Supermarkets have been instructed to pull the stock immediately.
Impact and Consumer Advice
MOMA stressed that no other products in its range are impacted. The company has apologised for the inconvenience and urged anyone with questions to email getintouch@momafoods.co.uk. Food safety campaigners said the recall highlights the need for robust pest control across the supply chain. Consumers are advised to check their kitchens now and dispose of or return any matching products without delay.
