A Black Labrador named Tokyo was rescued from Ben Nevis after veterinary professionals suspect she fell critically ill from consuming cannabis discarded on the mountainside. The dog, owned by Christina Bluhme, a dog trainer from Esher, Surrey, collapsed approximately halfway up Britain's tallest summit last weekend.
Rescue Operation
Tokyo, typically a healthy and energetic working dog, suddenly became unable to proceed during the walk. The volunteer Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was called to assist. They transported Tokyo down from the 4,413ft (1,345m) peak on a stretcher before she received urgent care at Crown Vets.
Recovery and Gratitude
Tokyo has since made a full recovery. Ms Bluhme stated that veterinary staff believe the Labrador fell ill after ingesting cannabis that had been discarded along the path. In a social media message thanking the rescue team, she wrote: "Thank you, Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team. Without your support, I would never have been able to get Tokyo safely down from the mountain. At the time, I truly thought I was going to lose her, and I can't begin to express how grateful I am for your kindness, professionalism, and compassion. Thank you for being there when we needed you most. We will never forget it."
Official Confirmation
A spokesperson for Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team confirmed: "Following a request to assist a collapsed dog on Sunday, we're pleased to confirm that Tokyo has made a full recovery, having been cared for at Crown Vets. It's now suspected that Tokyo, a usually very fit and active working dog, had ingested something that made her critically unwell. Many thanks to Crown Vets for their support, and to Tokyo's owner for the update and photos. The team is really pleased to hear Tokyo is doing well. Glad we could help."
