Ireland Extends Hot Weather Advisory Until Next Friday

Met Éireann has extended its hot weather advisory for the Republic of Ireland until Friday next week, as a prolonged spell of very warm or hot weather continues. The advisory, originally set to expire on Tuesday, now warns of temperatures widely exceeding 25°C and reaching into the 30s in some areas, coupled with a UV index rated high to very high.

Nighttime Heat and Thunderstorm Risk

The national weather agency noted that warm and humid nights will persist, with overnight temperatures remaining above 15°C. There is also a chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday, adding to the unsettled conditions.

Health and Safety Warnings

Met Éireann highlighted several risks associated with the heatwave, including water safety issues due to increased use of waterways, lakes, and beaches. Uncomfortable sleeping conditions, heat stress, and dehydration are also concerns. Additionally, the agency warned of potential droughts and wildfires, urging the public to take precautions.

Status Yellow Warning for 13 Counties

A status yellow high temperature warning remains in effect for 13 counties until 7am Tuesday: Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford. These areas are expected to see temperatures of 27°C over the weekend, with uncomfortably warm nights.

Northern Ireland Outlook

The UK Met Office has forecast temperatures rising to 27°C in Northern Ireland over the weekend, aligning with the broader heatwave affecting the island.
