Hundreds of people gathered on Rhos-on-Sea beach in Conwy to protest against plans for a year-round dog ban at the Cayley Promenade section of the beach.
The measure would be introduced if approved, and a consultation is currently open until September 11. Conwy council has said communities considered dog-related issues to be a "key concern".
Background to the proposed ban
The council introduced a dog control order in 2023. It is understood the consultation on a total ban was started because of the actions of some owners who failed to keep their pets under control or pick up after them.
Many of those at the protest disagreed with the proposed measures, including Diana Owen, who told the BBC: "They need to really think about this. I can appreciate people do not always want to have dogs on the beach. But we pay our rates, we do live here. And being a lady on my own it's far safer on the beach."
Protesters' concerns
Others felt dog walkers should have access to the beach for their "mental wellbeing" and argued that dog wardens would be a better solution to the issue.
