A moisturiser containing mānuka honey has been praised by an eczema sufferer who says it calms and heals breakouts significantly faster than other creams.
Melora's Mānuka Moisturiser Cream, priced at £18.99, combines mānuka honey with coconut oil and glycerin to deliver deep hydration while supporting the skin's natural barrier. It can be used across the body, from hands and arms to legs, making it a multi-purpose addition to any skincare routine.
What users say about the cream
One reviewer shared: "I was surprised at how much better my skin feels, silky smooth and hydrated, after using for a few days. I always considered these things to be a gimmick, but it works."
Another user with severe eczema said: "Many other creams help, but Melora Mānuka Honey moisturiser seems to calm and heal the 'breakout' significantly faster. Old pigmented scars are also lighter in colour despite using the cream for a few weeks. So the cream is helpful in the acute as well as the chronic phase."
Formula and suitability
The formula is infused with vitamins and natural emollients, helping leave skin feeling soft, smooth and healthy-looking. It is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and is cruelty-free.
Mānuka honey is created by bees in New Zealand that pollinate the indigenous Leptospermum scoparium bush, commonly referred to as the Mānuka bush. It differs from ordinary honey through its concentration of methylglyoxal (MGO), the compound accountable for its antibacterial potency.
Other honey-based alternatives
Beyond Melora, another popular moisturiser infused with honey extract is COSRX Full Fit Propolis Light Cream (£25.60, Lookfantastic). It is formulated with over 65% Black Bee Propolis complex and honey extract, and comes in a light, silky texture that suits breakout-prone or combination skin.
The Farmacy Honey Halo Ultra-Hydrating Ceramide Moisturiser (£44, Space NK) combines antioxidant-rich buckwheat honey with ceramides and fig extract to lock in moisture and repair damaged skin barriers.
However, one user was disappointed that the Melora cream had no fragrance, saying: "Feels nice on the skin and is absorbed quickly. But I was disappointed it has little or no fragrance...most honey-based products smell lovely."
Another fan said: "I have only been using the creams for a few days, but I can already feel the difference. The moisturiser feels nice and light, and my skin feels soft. I think it is going to be good value too."
