The Guardian's corrections column has clarified a misquote in a recent article about heatwaves and older adults. The original piece stated that each additional degree of global heating exposes roughly 1 million more people to at least 180 hours of uncompensable heat stress (UHS) annually. The actual figure in the study is 1 billion.
Journal name corrected
The research was also published in the journal Lancet Planetary Health, not Lancet Public Health as previously stated. UHS occurs when the body loses its ability to cool itself.
