A binman has warned Brits never to put polystyrene in their recycling bin, as it cannot be recycled and could mean your bin does not get emptied. Polystyrene is often used as packaging filler for delicate items, but it must be placed in general waste instead.

Ashley, known online as The No.1 Binman, shared a TikTok video telling people never to put polystyrene in recycling. He captioned the video: "When Karen tries to hide the polystyrene in her recycling bin." Polystyrene cannot be recycled but can go in general waste. One person commented: "I checked on my council site, and they said you can put it in your black bin as it can't go out with recycling." Another added: "That's why I put it in the black bin!"
Other items to avoid
The same binman previously warned that vapes should not be put in general waste bins because they pose a danger. He said he will not collect a bin containing a vape, as vapes are classed as battery and electrical waste and require separate disposal. Disposable vapes were made illegal to sell in the UK in June.
