Andros Townsend, the former England winger turned ITV World Cup pundit, has left fans baffled after posting a video of himself eating raw beef from a glass lunchbox inside a World Cup stadium. The 34-year-old, who currently plays in Thailand, shared the clip on TikTok, showing him consuming chunks of raw meat with smashed avocado while in the commentary box.
Unusual Meal Sparks Debate
Townsend captioned the post: "Never let your circumstances dictate your health." The video, filmed in full view of supporters in the stands, quickly went viral, drawing a mix of shock and support. One user on X wrote: "Footballers really do live in a completely different universe from the rest of us. Raw beef out of Tupperware is elite side quest behaviour." Another commented: "Can someone alert the authorities to take him away."
However, some defended Townsend's choice, noting that raw beef has been consumed for centuries. One supporter said: "If you’ve ever wondered how top level athletes perform how they do, this is why. I wouldn’t judge if you eat sandwiches and crisps daily." Another added: "Really have no idea why people care what this guy does, looks extremely healthy anyway."
Townsend's Unconventional Diet History
Townsend, who last played in the Premier League for Luton Town two years ago, regularly shares health and fitness advice. He previously revealed a diet plan from his time in Mexico that included six hard-boiled eggs, six cans of sardines, and a steak with bone broth. His latest post continues this trend of unusual eating habits.
The video was shared ahead of Germany's comeback victory over Ivory Coast, where Denis Undav scored two second-half goals, including a stoppage-time winner. Townsend is part of ITV's World Cup coverage, primarily working as a co-commentator.
