Gardening experts have shared three essential care tips for peace lilies to help gardeners achieve beautiful blooms and maintain glossy, healthy foliage throughout the summer months. Peace lilies naturally flourish between spring and autumn, with healthy specimens typically bursting into bloom during this period. However, ensuring the plant receives precisely the right care is crucial for witnessing those sought-after white flowers.
1. Polish Leaves and Keep Growth Tidy
Wiping peace lily leaves with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and restore their lustrous shine is a simple but highly effective gardening chore. This modest action yields substantial benefits over time for plant development. While attending to this, gardeners should also tidy the foliage by deadheading and removing any yellowing or deteriorating leaves, particularly near the base. Trimming away spent foliage allows the plant to channel energy toward vigorous new growth instead of sustaining ageing leaves.
2. Boost Humidity
As homes heat up and indoor temperatures rise, the atmosphere becomes drier. Peace lilies, being tropical specimens, thrive with added moisture. Gardeners can increase humidity by moving the plant to a naturally humid location, such as a well-lit bathroom. Alternatively, periodic misting or using a humidity tray can keep the plant vibrant and lush without causing discomfort during warmer months.
3. Assess if Repotting Is Required
Now is the perfect time to consider repotting, though peace lilies prefer slightly snugger pots and often perform better without extra space. If roots begin creeping out of drainage holes or compost dries out more quickly than usual, these are clear signals to repot. When repotting, experts advise moving up only one pot size and using a well-draining compost mix to maintain balanced soil moisture and prevent waterlogging around the roots.
