The Garden House, a community farm in Marple Bridge, Stockport, offers a budget-friendly family day out this summer, with tickets from £3.50 per person and a family ticket for two adults and up to three children at just £12.50.
Farm Attractions and Activities
Spread across 23 acres on the banks of the River Goyt, the volunteer-run urban farm and community garden was established in 2015 by the charity of the same name. It sits on original farmland dating back to 1801 and aims to help families connect with nature while providing supported placements for vulnerable adults.
The animal fields are home to chickens, pygmy goats, alpacas, guinea pigs, rabbits, and quails. At various times during the day, alpacas, ponies, and pigs roam freely, often seen strolling along the riverside path.
Outdoor Play and Riverside Café
A new outdoor play area, opened this spring with support from The National Lottery Community Fund, features swings, slides, and obstacle courses. There is also a sensory garden where visitors can touch and smell fresh flowers and herbs while enjoying the sounds of the nearby river.
The Riverside Café, situated in an open-sided barn, offers hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, toasties, toasted teacakes, crumpets, and hot dogs. On hot days, the Icy Bar serves Mrs Dowson's Ice Cream, slushies, and ice pops. A signposted riverside walk leads along the River Goyt towards Dingley Dell and back.
