An investigation has confirmed the source of a horrific fly problem that has left residents in south Llanelli "physically sick." The issue, affecting the Glanymor ward since June, prompted Carmarthenshire council and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to investigate.
Residents described being unable to cook or eat in their own homes due to flies landing on their food. David Jones said: "It’s been going on for a few weeks now this summer but the truth is this is a recurring nightmare that keeps coming back to plague us year after year. It affects every single part of daily life." He added that residents cannot open windows or doors and feel like prisoners in their own homes surrounded by sticky fly papers.
Investigation findings
On Tuesday, July 21, NRW shared the result of its investigation, confirming the source is AMG Resources Limited, a site permitted and regulated by NRW. A spokesman said: "Investigations into the recent increase in fly activity in the Glanymor ward of Llanelli have substantiated that a source is AMG Resources Limited... Working closely with Carmarthenshire County Council we have undertaken extensive investigations and evidence-gathering to identify this source."
NRW issued an enforcement notice requiring the operator to take action to address waste management issues and bring operations back into compliance within 21 days. The spokesman added: "We recognise the significant impact this issue is having on residents and the wider community. The situation is being closely monitored and we will continue to drive efforts to secure a swift and lasting resolution."
Attempts to contact AMG Resources Limited for comment were unsuccessful.
