Campsites.co.uk has named 12 Scottish campsites in its annual list of the UK's 150 Outstanding Sites for 2026, highlighting locations with amenities such as private hot tubs, beach access, and scenic Highland views.
Glen Nevis Caravan and Camping Park
Located at the foot of Ben Nevis, Glen Nevis Caravan and Camping Park offers views of the mountain and access to over 1,000 acres of Highland woodland. The site is popular with hikers and cyclists, featuring walking and cycling routes through Glen Nevis and nearby Fort William. Amenities include a children's playground, dog exercise area, shop, and an on-site restaurant and bar serving pub classics and traditional Scottish dishes, along with Scottish whiskies and gins. The site holds an overall rating of 4.85 out of five, with 99% of visitors recommending it. Guests have described the campsite as "breathtaking" with "the best atmosphere."
Shieldaig Camping and Cabins
This waterside retreat on the North Coast 500 offers views across Loch Shieldaig. It features grass tent and hardstanding touring pitches, as well as three glamping pods with kitchenettes, smart TVs, en-suite bathrooms, and hotel-style interiors. A beach is nearby, and a bar, restaurant, and cafe are within a five-minute walk. The site holds an overall rating of 4.95, with 100% of visitors recommending it.
Machrihanish Holiday Park
Overlooking a golf course and Machrihanish Bay with views to Islay and Jura, Machrihanish Holiday Park in Campbeltown offers grass and hardstanding pitches, some with sea views. Glamping options include heated camping pods and luxury en-suite pod cabins, with dog-friendly choices available. The park has an average rating of 4.93 out of five, with 98% of visitors recommending it.
The Galloway Steading
This Dumfries and Galloway glamping site in Glenluce comprises four en-suite cabins, each with a bed, fully equipped kitchen, outdoor decking with seating, private hot tub, and fire pits. It is a five-minute drive from the nearest beach, with forest walks and an on-site children's play area. The site holds an overall rating of 4.92 out of five, with 100% of visitors recommending it.
Other Outstanding Scottish Campsites
The remaining eight sites named include Balloch O Dee in Newton Stewart, Foresterseat Holiday Park in Forfar, Linwater Caravan Park in Edinburgh, Barrow Campsite Nairn in Nairn, Wick River Campsite in Wick, Bonnie Park in Bonchester Bridge, Cobleland Campsite in Gartmore, and Blair Drummond Caravan Park in Stirling.
