Rutherglen 900 are holding a public meeting about Overtoun Park Bandstand. The group, which is leading the celebrations of the town’s 900th anniversary as a royal burgh, will host the event on Saturday, August 29, at 11am in Overtoun Park Bowling Club.
Works have begun to restore the 112-year-old Overtoun Bandstand in Rutherglen, two years since it was severely damaged in a blaze. On June 1, 2024, emergency fire services were called to Overtoun Park after reports of a fire at the bandstand.
Restoration details and meeting purpose
A spokesperson said: “Join us to learn more about the restoration of Overtoun Park Bandstand and help shape exciting opportunities for the park’s future.” The restoration is due to be completed in October as part of the Rutherglen 900 celebrations.
At the meeting, representatives from South Lanarkshire Council will share more about the bandstand’s design, restoration and future potential.
Future of the park
The event will also explore the possibility of re-establishing a Friends of Overtoun Park group to help support the park’s future. If you plan to attend, or cannot make the meeting but would like to get involved, email robert.brown@southlanarkshire.gov.uk.
