A popular pick your own fruit farm on the edge of Greater Manchester has closed down for good after 17 years. Poynton Fruit Farm, located in Coppice Road, Poynton, Cheshire, has been a cherished destination for families, offering strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, and more.
Free Entry and Pay-As-You-Pick
Entry to the farm was free, and visitors paid for a punnet or basket of the fruit they picked. Over the years, it became a beloved spot for family outings.
Closure Announced on Facebook
The business announced its permanent closure via a Facebook post, stating: "Decision has been made, we are permanently closing the fruit farm. Thank you for all your custom over the last 17 yrs." Hundreds reacted, with many sharing memories and expressing sadness. One described it as "the end of an iconic era."
Comments included: "So sad. Such wonderful family memories at the fruit farm," and "Thank you for all the lovely fruit picking memories we made." Another customer said: "We had some absolutely brilliant days up there - thank you so much for being a part of my childhood."
Previous Hiatus and Final Closure
The farm did not operate last year, citing poor strawberry crops and winter damage to raspberry plants. Despite hopes to regroup, the website has now been taken down. A former customer remarked: "I'm sorry to hear this, had some great memories visiting with my kids. Thank you for providing such a lovely experience for the community."
The Manchester Evening News has contacted the owners for comment.
