Pest Expert Shares Simple Flying Ant Removal Trick

Pest control specialist Stephen Wales of Bespoke Pest Control has shared a simple, chemical-free method to remove flying ants from homes. The technique involves turning off all lights and opening windows and doors to encourage the ants to leave naturally.

How the Method Works

Wales explained that flying ants, like most insects, are attracted to light. By darkening the room and providing an exit, they will find their way outside. He told the Daily Mail: "If flying ants come into your home, turn all the lights off as, like most insects, they are attracted to the light. Open the windows and doors and they'll find their way out. They want to be outside. Some will die in your house, so just vacuum them up and put the bag in your outside bin."

Preventing Nests

Wales also emphasised the importance of destroying nests to prevent long-term infestations. He said: "If you don't destroy the nest, it will be there for many years. They like somewhere safe and undisturbed like flower pots, under patios, beneath decking, under turf or any pile of debris." He noted that swarms typically last only a few hours, as the ants are focused on mating and breeding.

Alternative Natural Repellent

Another viral tip from TikTok user Chantel Mila suggests using a lemon studded with dried cloves on a windowsill to repel flies. Interior designer Keely Smith explained that flies are sensitive to the combination of limonene from lemons and eugenol from cloves, which disrupts their ability to find food.
