Wasted Degrees, the brewery founded by Pitlochry brothers Conall and Jack Low, has opened its first pub in Perth city centre. The new bar, located on George Street in the former BrewDog premises, welcomed friends and family last Sunday before officially opening to the public on Thursday, August 6.
A Decade of Growth
Ten years after Conall began brewing beer in a 25-litre plastic bottle in his parents' garage, Wasted Degrees now produces up to 29,000 litres per month and exports to 13 countries. Jack Low expressed gratitude for the warm reception, noting the pub was packed with supporters who travelled from Blair Atholl.
Expansion Amid Delays
The decision to open in Perth came as the brothers faced delays with their planned brewery in Pitlochry. Despite planning permission being granted in June 2024 and reaffirmed in February 2025 after a judicial review, an objector's legal challenge failed in November 2025, but an appeal is set for November 3, 2026.
Jack said: "With the delays to our build in Pitlochry, we did not want to sit on our hands. We took a glass half-full approach to life and business and want to build on the success of the brewery and taproom in Blair Atholl."
Local Support
The new pub has been welcomed by local politicians. Council leader Eric Drysdale said he was "delighted" and hoped the business thrives. Licensing Board convener Peter Barrett praised the move, saying it was "great to see a local Perthshire company expanding its operations into Perth and bringing new jobs to the city centre."
