Peace Lilies Bloom With Monthly Rice Water Fertiliser

A gardening expert has revealed that using rice flour can make peace lilies 'explode with so many flowers'. The method involves creating a thin mixture of water and rice flour, which is then used to clean the leaves and water the plant.

Rice is rich in nutrients including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron and sulphur, making it an excellent fertiliser for peace lilies. In a video shared on YouTube channel Plant Tips, a specialist demonstrated the technique, showing a drooping plant with no blooms and dead foliage transformed into a thriving specimen with over nine white blossoms after three months.

The process begins by removing the peace lily from its pot, propagating it, and repotting in a mix of perlite, coir, soil, rice husks and fertiliser. The rice water mixture is then applied to the leaves and poured over the potting mix. After two months, the plant showed two blooms and greener leaves. Continued use led to abundant flowers after three months.

However, experts advise using rice water sparingly due to the risk of starch build-up. It should be applied only once a month, with regular tap water or rainwater used at other times. This simple, natural fertiliser can help peace lily owners achieve spectacular blooms with minimal effort.
