Older individuals who do not receive Pension Credit may still qualify for additional financial support, discounts, and disability-related assistance. While some programs are means-tested, others are based on age, disability, health conditions, or household circumstances.
Available Support Options
Support includes Attendance Allowance, Pension Age Disability Payment, Winter Fuel Payment, Pension Age Winter Heating Payment, Council Tax Reduction, Blue Badge scheme, concessionary travel, and help with energy bills.
Free Advice Services
Charities such as Age Scotland, Age UK, Independent Age, and Citizens Advice offer free, confidential, and impartial advice to help older people boost their income or navigate application processes.
Pension Credit Under-Claiming
Pension Credit remains the most under-claimed means-tested benefit for older people. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) estimates over 760,000 eligible individuals are not claiming it. Nearly 1.4 million older people across Great Britain, including over 125,000 in Scotland, currently receive the benefit, which can provide over £4,300 in extra support annually.
Some older people assume savings or homeownership disqualify them, but even a £1 weekly award unlocks additional support.
