Former international rugby referee Nigel Owens is stepping away from the pitch to front a new S4C series offering young people a chance to turn their lives around.
The series, titled Fferm Ail Gyfle (Second Chance Farm in English), will bring together a group of youngsters who will tackle challenges while helping out on a farm, all under Owens' supervision.
From Rugby to Farming
Since retiring as an international referee in 2020, Owens has kept busy on his farm in Pontyberem in the Gwendraeth Valley, where he tends the land and cares for livestock.
Speaking about joining the programme, Owens said: "I'm excited to get stuck in with this series, which will give a group of young people the opportunity to have a fresh start."
"From the rugby field to the fields of the farm, I've dealt with a number of challenging situations over the years, and this series will show how anything is possible with a little determination and perseverance."
Recruiting Young Participants
Tŷ’r Ddraig (part of Banijay UK’s Workerbee Group) and Captain Jac production are behind the new series and are currently recruiting young people aged 18 to 25.
The team is especially keen to hear from those seeking a new challenge, the chance to discover their potential, or those who feel lost and crave a fresh beginning. Participants will gain the opportunity to develop new skills, including teamwork, while living and working in a countryside setting.
