NHS Ayrshire & Arran Celebrates Volunteers' Week 2026
NHS Ayrshire & Arran Honours Volunteers' Week 2026

NHS Ayrshire & Arran has thrown its full support behind Volunteers' Week, an annual event celebrating the contributions of millions of volunteers across the UK. This year's Volunteers' Week runs from 1 to 7 June 2026.

Recognising the Contribution of Volunteers

The health board has taken the opportunity to honour the many volunteers who support its hospital services throughout the year. A spokesperson for NHS Ayrshire & Arran stated: “We recognise the positive contribution volunteers make across the organisation, in partnership with patients, families and staff.”

The spokesperson highlighted that the organisation supports approximately 200 volunteers in a variety of roles, all of which make a genuine difference to patients’ experiences while assisting staff in delivering care and key services. “All our volunteers bring a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience from all walks of life - from young people to retirees who wish to contribute a few hours to their local health communities or services. They each bring compassion, kindness and reassurance at moments when it matters most,” the spokesperson added.

Volunteer Roles and Impact

Volunteers with NHS Ayrshire & Arran engage in a wide range of activities, including offering a listening ear, supporting patients and families, helping within hospitals, and giving their time in the wider community. One such volunteer is Eilidh Laurenson, a Youth Ward Volunteer, who is among the more than 200 volunteers supporting the health board.

Chief Executive's Thanks

Professor Gordon James, Chief Executive of NHS Ayrshire & Arran, expressed his gratitude: “I want to take this opportunity to thank every one of our volunteers for the incredible contribution that you make to our patients, staff and communities every day.” He continued: “The willingness to step up and lend a helping hand reinforces the spirit of community and compassion that defines our NHS. Your generosity, dedication and community spirit are deeply valued and appreciated.” Professor James concluded: “On behalf of everyone at NHS Ayrshire & Arran, thank you for everything you do.”
