A mum has revealed an easy yet successful method for cleaning shower screens, which has been hailed a 'lifesaver' on TikTok. The hack uses a 35p kitchen item mixed with washing up liquid to banish stubborn water marks and limescale.
The Hack: White Vinegar and Washing Up Liquid
The mum, who runs the TikTok account My Little Home, recommends using a refillable Dishmatic brush containing equal parts Fairy liquid (or any washing up liquid) and white vinegar. A 568ml bottle of white vinegar costs just 35p at Tesco. She specifically used Stardrops' White Vinegar Spray in an 850ml bottle, priced at £1.19 from The Range.
She advises putting the brush under running water to dampen it slightly before scrubbing the shower screen. 'Top tip - you can do this while you're having a shower,' she says. 'I like to do this while I've got my hair mask in and then you're literally killing two birds with one stone. If you do this every day in your shower you're not going to have a big build up of water marks which means it's going to be a lot quicker.'
Step-by-Step Cleaning Process
After scrubbing, she uses a window vac or an ordinary squeegee to remove excess moisture. Next, she generously sprays shower screen or window cleaner on both sides of the glass. Using a microfibre cloth, she wipes the outside but avoids rubbing the inside, having learned you're 'not supposed to rub it in.'
Concluding the demonstration, she says: 'I've seen loads of shower screen hacks but I think this one works the best. I know the before and after isn't that crazy because I did clean this the other day but if you have serious water marks I promise you this is gonna be amazing.'
Social Media Reaction
Her TikTok tutorial has received 306,500 views, 8,500 likes, and hundreds of comments. One user commented: 'Honestly this hack is such a lifesaver! I remember when I tried it for the first time after finding it and I was shocked to see how well it worked!!' Another added: 'Love this!!'
The mum, who describes herself as a former 'terror' who taught herself to cook and clean via internet resources after marriage, now shares her knowledge with fellow homemakers.
